What You'll See

• Adi Kailash (Jolingkong) — The sacred peak itself, at roughly 5,945 metres, viewed from Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund, where the mountain's reflection in the still water is, for many pilgrims, the defining moment of the trip.
• Om Parvat — A short drive from Gunji at Nabhidhang, this peak is revered for the naturally occurring "ॐ" symbol formed by snow settling into the rock's grooves — visible only from the Indian side.
• Panchachuli Base Camp viewpoint (via Munsiyari) — Five snow-clad peaks, a spectacular addition on the return leg of this itinerary.
• Jageshwar Dham — A cluster of ancient Shiva temples in a deodar forest, a traditional and auspicious first stop.
• Kainchi Dham — The well-known Neem Karoli Baba ashram, en route between Bhimtal and Almora.

Pickup, Drop & Transport

• Pickup points: Kathgodam Railway Station or Pantnagar Airport
• Transport: Standard vehicles for the paved Kathgodam–Pithoragarh–Dharchula stretch; registered KMVN or tour-operator 4x4 vehicles beyond Dharchula, as private vehicles aren't permitted on this restricted stretch
• Drop back at Kathgodam/Pantnagar at the end of the yatra

Stay & Meal Details

• Stay at KMVN rest houses or verified guesthouses in Pithoragarh, Dharchula, and Munsiyari, and homestays at Gunji/Nabi village
• Accommodation becomes progressively more basic beyond Dharchula, in line with the remoteness of the region — clean and comfortable, but not luxury
• Meals as per the confirmed plan (usually breakfast & dinner); vegetarian food through most of the route

• Route: Kathgodam → Pithoragarh (~200 km, paved) → Dharchula (~96 km, paved) → Gunji (~80 km, off-road 4x4) → Jolingkong (~32 km, off-road) / Nabhidhang (~20 km, off-road), with a Munsiyari extension on the return leg
• Since the Border Roads Organisation extended motorable access, this yatra is now largely vehicle-based, with only short walks at the key viewpoints

Safety, Medical & Senior Citizen Guidance

Adi Kailash is one of the more accessible high-altitude yatras, precisely because of the motorable road access, but sensible preparation still matters:

• A basic medical fitness check is advisable given the altitude (up to roughly 4,500 m at Nabhidhang), particularly for pilgrims with heart or lung conditions
• Because most of the route is vehicle-based rather than trekked, this yatra suits a wider range of fitness levels than most Himalayan pilgrimages, including many senior citizens
• Carry any regular prescription medicines, and inform your travel coordinator of existing medical conditions in advance
• Guides are mandatory past Gunji, and we ensure a qualified local guide accompanies your group
• We recommend travel insurance for your overall trip (not included in the package)

Permits & Registration

• An Inner Line Permit (ILP) is mandatory for every pilgrim, since the route runs close to the India-China border, arranged through the Sub-Divisional Magistrate's office in Dharchula
• Indian citizens need standard government photo ID (Aadhaar or voter ID) rather than a passport, along with a basic medical fitness confirmation
• Pre-registration can also be initiated online, though the physical ILP must be collected in person at Dharchula
• We handle the ILP paperwork as part of your package so it's sorted well before you reach Dharchula
